#^Kongsberg Geospatial Joins Forces With NordSpace To Boost Canada’s Rapid Launch AmbitionsCanada’s ambitions for fast and flexible access to orbit have taken a major step forward thanks to
a new partnership between NordSpace Corp. and Kongsberg Geospatial, the Canadian arm of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop advanced mission control and range safety systems that will underpin Canada’s first responsive space launch site.
The collaboration centres on NordSpace’s Atlantic Spaceport Complex (ASX) in Newfoundland, where Kongsberg Geospatial will help design and deliver a next-generation digital Mission Control centre. This system will fuse data from multiple sensors to provide real-time 3D visualisation of launch operations, vehicle tracking, and safety management, capabilities essential for launches that can occur within 48 hours of notice.
Real-Time Visualisation for Safer, Faster Launches
Kongsberg Geospatial will bring its TerraLens SDK and airspace visualisation technologies to the project. These systems, already used in aviation and defence operations, are designed to deliver high-fidelity situational awareness during complex missions.
“Kongsberg Geospatial has been delivering made-in-Canada technology for more than 30 years to keep Canadians safe in the air and at sea,” said Jordan Freed, President and Managing Director of Kongsberg Geospatial. “Working with NordSpace allows us to extend that expertise into space, supporting safe and sustainable launch operations from Canadian soil.”
The company’s experience with Norway’s Andøya Space and Defence project and NAV Canada’s DAATS digital air traffic service will serve as a foundation for the new mission control architecture at ASX.
Building Canada’s Sovereign Launch Capability
NordSpace, which is developing both launch vehicles and spaceport infrastructure, sees the partnership as key to ensuring resilience and responsiveness in future missions.
“With NordSpace’s bold mission to develop responsive space missions capabilities in Canada, it is incredibly exciting to work with a world-class partner like Kongsberg Geospatial who brings decades of experience developing and operating mission critical geospatial awareness tools proven to provide the real-time insights we will need to launch on a dime,” said Rahul Goel, CEO and Founder of NordSpace.
He added that Kongsberg’s experience with
Andøya Space in Norway would help ensure reliability for both defence and commercial missions in collaboration with the Canadian government and NATO allies.
Strengthening Canada’s Space and Defence Ecosystem
Beyond launch operations, the collaboration is expected to support Canada’s wider aerospace and defence innovation ecosystem. The technologies developed could be applied to orbital and suborbital missions, hypersonic vehicle testing, and uncrewed aerial systems.
The two firms also plan to work with federal and provincial authorities to secure regulatory approval and explore funding opportunities, ensuring the Atlantic Spaceport Complex becomes a cornerstone of Canada’s emerging space economy.
By combining Kongsberg’s advanced visualisation systems with NordSpace’s growing launch infrastructure, the partnership represents a significant leap toward a truly sovereign and responsive space capability on Canadian soil.
