I'm following the entire gen-z discourse about Israel on social media and the generational divide is very clearly visible. It is clear that people under the age of 30 who are progressives are clearly and undeniably biased against Israel. They are incredibly brainwashed by propaganda, they clearly don't know the difference between the Gaza strip and the West Bank (they couldn't even find it on a map). They are also incredibly closed minded and very openly racist, even if they don't admit it. My "favorite" argument of theirs is "I am not Antisemitic - I'm antizionist!" which is laughable as well. When you try to challenge them, to explain the difference between the two they just can't. They are completely unaware to the history of the region and they don't even bother to do any research about their own stance, do basic fact checking and to apply even the slightest critical thinking. I've tried talking with dozens of them, they all argue in bad faith and willingly ignore facts when they're given multiple articles with said facts - it's all a giant "zionist" conspiracy for them. For them Zionism and Nazism are one and the same (even though they can't define either). They'll even go as far to claim that Israel is a white supremacist/national state (which is BY FAR the most laughable argument of them all). Now, why am I so bothered by it (other than because I'm an Israeli immigrant to the US)? It's because a lot of those "enlightened thinkers" are studying in the most prestigious universities and they are "the future generation". In 15-20 years they'll be running things here and it's honestly scary. How can you trust people that won't even use google and blindly trust terrorist organizations or "news" they consume on Tiktok? This is the mirror effect of your boomer uncle that gets all of his "news" from Trump conspiracies on Facebook. Now, add to that Tiktok, instagram, threads, and X/Twitter which are pushing all of that content with their rage-baiting algorithms and you have yourself a truly scary future.
It's not about being pro/against Israel - it's about the reasoning behind why you're pro/against Israel
